• We conduct biomedical research on tropical health problems and strive to build capacity of medical personnel through training. We are affiliated to the University of Malawi: College of Medicine (COM), the only medical school in Malawi.

    We are located in the commercial city of Blantyre Malawi on the premises of the national Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) with a number of other field sites around the country.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    In low-income countries, a prominent obstacle to the effective planning and delivery of health care is the accurate assessment of the disease burden.
    The Surveillance Programme of INpatients and Epidemiology (SPINE), demonstrates that such a system can be successfully used for large-scale surveillance,facilitation of in-patient management,and as a platform for clinical research,see publications.

     

     


 

MLW focuses on Four major research themes namely:

Malaria, TB & HIV,  Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and Microbes, Immunity and Vaccines. Under each theme we have built a multidisciplinary critical mass of research excellence.
