• We conduct biomedical research on tropical health problems and strive to build capacity of medical personnel through training. We are affiliated to the University of Malawi: College of Medicine (COM), the only medical school in Malawi.

     

    We are located in the commercial city of Blantyre Malawi on the premises of the national Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) with a number of other field sites around the country.

    Untreated HIV disease disrupts B cells causing reduced memory & naïve resting B cells, leading to increases in co-infections & impaired responses to vaccines. A study was performed to assess the extent that ARV's reverses the changes.


 

MLW focuses on Six major research themes namely:

Molecular Mechanisms of Diseases, Malaria & Brain Diseases, Therapeutics in the Tropics, Severe Bacterial Infection, Mucosal & Vaccine Immunity and Health in the Population
